[VIDEO] TMS Chats With Nerdcore Phenom Sammus About Her New Album, Pieces in Space—Plus an Exclusive Track!

Recommended Videos

Despite the way Jeopardy‘s Alex Trebek likes to trash-talk, we here at TMS know how awesome nerdcore can be! In fact, when I went to GeekGirlCon this year, I made sure to attend the Women of Nerdcore panel, where rappers Sammus and Shubzilla took to the stage to talk about being two of the only women in the nerdcore game. I was able to connect with Sammus after that, and it turned out that she had a new album coming out, so of course, I had to chat with her about it!

Jessica and I had a chance to sit down and talk with Sammus via Google Hangout to talk about that album, Pieces in Space, which drops TOMORROW! In the interview, she talks about “impostor syndrome,” internet trolls, and finding a balance between music and academia (she’s currently pursuing a PhD!). At the end of the interview, you’ll also have an exclusive-to-TMS first listen of one of the tracks from the album, “Comments Disabled.” This is one of our favorite tracks, and it’s an anthem that every woman who’s ever internetted can relate to. Check it all out in the video above!

And if you want even more Sammus in your life (and really, once you’ve heard her stuff, why wouldn’t you?), join us tomorrow where, to celebrate the official release of Pieces in Space, we’ll be doing a LIVE Q&A with Sammus at 11:00AM ET/8:00AM PT tomorrow, October 28th! We’ve had a chance to ask her all of our burning questions, now it’s your turn!

And just to sweeten the deal, if you ask her a question during the live Q&A, you’ll be entered to win a signed copy of Pieces in Space on the physical format of your choosing (don’t worry, it’ll come with a digital download code, too). If you can’t make the live chat, but want to ask Sammus a question, you can send your question(s) to me at [email protected] with “SAMMUS Q&A” in the subject line.

Pieces in Space drops everywhere music is sold/streamed tomorrow, October 28th. For more information, or to pre-order the album, visit Sammus’ website.
