Are These Leaked Photos of the Hollywood Ghost in the Shell Adaptation?

Recommended Videos

We’ve had plenty to talk about with Ghost in the Shell‘s whitewashing issues and rumors that the production actually ran tests to use CGI to make white actors appear Asian, as though that would somehow be better. What we haven’t had is a whole lot of actual information on the movie to talk about, but that might have changed with the potential leak of cast photos.

Pictures that appear to show the cast in their full Ghost in the Shell appearance have been posted online, but it’s hard to say at this point whether they’re real or not. They’ve got a stylized look to them that makes it difficult to tell, but set photos alongside them appear to suggest they’re the real deal. So … how do they look? Well, they look pretty much like their counterparts in the anime, as Kotaku demonstrates with side-by-side images (we’re a little more wary of posting images without permission), although one character, Togusa, does look noticeably older—and the eyes on Boma … that can’t be a finished special effect, right?

Anyway, so far, the only official image we have from the production is the one of Scarlett Johansson in her starring role as the Major—and some set pics showing her and Pilou Asbæk as Batou—so these new ones should shed some light on things for fans who haven’t given up on the movie yet.
