Redditor Artist Knows Nothing About Pokémon, Draws Them Based on Name Alone Anyway

Slurms MacKenzie even shows up to this thread!

Every so often someone comes along and reminds us just how strange our obsessions really are. When it comes to Pokémon, Noelle Stevenson’s The Pokeymans Project or even the latest spat of “my partner named my Pokémon in Pokémon GO” have all been genuine comedy gold. Today, though, we’ve got Redditor netwoodle, whose artistically creative interpretations of Pokémon based only on their names has got me in stitches and wondering just what the heck it is we’ve all been talking about the past twenty years.

The story begins on /r/ICanDrawThat, which is a subreddit dedicated to pairing artists with folks who need things drawn: Dungeons and Dragons characters, tattoos, pets, and the like. One artist offered to draw Pokémon, but with one twist: they had never, ever seen the show and know next to nothing about what any of these Pokémon are named or look like. Armed with a sketchbook, a pencil, and the provided names, netwoodle went to work.

Check out this Dragonite (dragon + dynamite, because of courseduh).

Or a really… out of this world Azumarill and Clefable.

Or this very Slurms MacKenzie-esque MudkipParty on, dudes.

You should head on over to the Reddit thread to check out even more of the weird Pokémon. The artist’s offer is closed, so you can’t request anymore, but given the fact that the thread’s about, oh, 600 or so comments long, chances are you’ll find the Pokémon you’re (kinda sorta) looking for. Maybe. We’ll see.
