Last night, Third Eye Blind played at a charity function in Cleveland, OH, at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not too far from where the Republican National Convention is being held. While on stage, the band took the opportunity to annoy the ever-living futz out of the RNC party attendees by talking about LGBT rights. Lead singer Stephan Jenkins spoke on stage about such radical ideas as “tolerance” and “acceptance,” all of which were met with incredible amounts of boos and scorn from the crowd.
LOL Third Eye Blind is cool, but the main takeaway is that the #RNCinCLE crowd was literally BOOING the words “tolerance” and “acceptance.”

Like, really? How are you going to boo acceptance and tolerance? Whatever.
What’s great is that they didn’t play any of their hits, either. The only one that they did play was “Jumper,” which, according to Jenkins, is a “noir about a guy who jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he was gay.” He also said, “To love this song is to take into your heart the message and to actually have a feeling to arrive and move forward and not live your life in fear and imposing that fear on other people.”
It seems, though, that his message was lost upon the crowd. There’s plenty of salt strewn about on Twitter about their performance. To find it, one only need search for “#RNCinCLE Third Eye Blind.” But since news of this story broke, a lot more folks have come out in support of the band, praising their boldness and unabashed swipes at a party that once asked them to perform at the 2012 RNC.
If ever there was a mic drop moment for this band, this would be it.
