Ben Mendelsohn Mumbles Rogue One Details on Jimmy Kimmel

Ben Mendelsohn made his first American talk show appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where he talked about adopting an American accent and his upcoming role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Mendelsohn discussed the pain of keeping his Star Wars casting secret, but was able to withstand Kimmel’s valiant effort to uncover details by asking Mendelsohn whether or not his character uses the Force and if he’ll be a good or bad character. You can see the pain in his eyes as he unintelligibly mumbles through the details of what’s undoubtedly a really cool role with really cool relationships with the other Rogue One characters played by the ridiculously talented cast of Felicity Jones, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed. He’s definitely doing a better job of keeping quiet than John “I told the taxi driver” Boyega and Carrie “IDGAF” Fisher.

He also talked about his own history with the Star Wars franchise, calling himself “a Star Wars tragic:”

I was right at that sweet spot. You know, I was like seven or something when the first one came out. I fell in love. I mean, I just…the whole box and dice. I had the, you know, the trading cards? You know the gumball, like baseball cards? So I had all that stuff and in fact, I still remember the most important one—cause it was very rare. It was Han Solo and Chewie firing down, like an alleyway together. And I got two of them.

It’s always awesome to see actors geek out, and Mendelsohn’s enthusiasm is very contagious. Anyway, the moral is: if you’re going to see Ben Mendelsohn at some point in the near future and want to aggravate him, wear a Star Wars t-shirt.
