Today, we got our first look at the post-epilogue Potter family photo, featuring the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. We’ve got Jamie Parker as Harry Potter, Sam Clemmett as Albus Severus Potter, and Poppy Miller as Ginny Potter. The trio will star in the play, which is set 19 years after the Harry Potter books’ ending.

Harry and his son, Albus Severus Potter, look quite serious in these photos, but Ginny looks a bit more gentle, both in the family shot and in her solo shot. That crossed-arms smirk that she’s giving the camera in her solo shot seems almost like she’s saying, “Come on, guys! Cheer up a bit, won’t you?” But Harry and Albus will not smile for the camera.

Jamie Parker, who plays Harry Potter, looks quite dapper in a suit, although his hair is still as unkempt as Harry’s should be. (He looks a little like a disheveled Stephen Colbert in these photos.) Parker told Pottermore that costume designer Katrina Lindsay spent a lot of time selecting a suit that felt right for the character:

“He’s wearing a suit because he’s a Ministry man, but he’s not just a bloke in a suit, that’s way too anonymous. And it sounds strange but we talked around a lot of different suits, because there are suits and suits, and a lot of them we put on and we went ‘Mmm, it’s just not right.’ With all the character’s costumes, we want them to be instantly familiar when people see them, so that people feel like the story’s safe in our hands, and that we’re taking that responsibility seriously.”

This is also the first time we’ve gotten a look at Jamie Parker with Harry’s scar, courtesy of make-up designer Carole Hancock. J.K. Rowling has nothing but good things to say about Parker’s embodiment of the character: “He simply is Harry now. There’s a kind of relief in watching him, he gets it so right.”

Of course, Rowling also believes that the casting for Ginny and Albus is spot-on, too: “I think a lot of people would like to have Poppy’s Ginny for a mother. Kind and cool, exactly as I imagined her … There’s much I could say about Sam-as-Albus, but we’d be into spoiler territory so quickly I’ll just say we couldn’t have cast better.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will go into previews on June 7th at London’s Palace Theatre. You can also pre-order a copy of the script if you want to know what happens. Pottermore will be sharing cast photos all week; here’s hoping we get to see Hermione next!
