The relationship between writer/producer/director J.J. Abrams and actor (and now comics writer) Greg Grunberg is an epic Hollywood bromance topped only by the one between Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Grunberg has recently co-written a two-part graphic novel series for Scholastic, and Abrams’ Bad Robot will be adapting it as a film.
The graphic novel is called Dream Jumper. The story, co-written by Grunberg and Lucas Turnbloom (who also illustrated), tells the story of a boy who can jump into other people’s dreams. This seems cool, until that power causes him to fall into an endless sleep where he’s trapped by something in the dream world that wants to take his power from him. Scholastic will be publishing the first book in the two-part series on June 28th.
But it’s good to have friends in high places, amirite? Dream Jumper already has a film deal, with Bad Robot’s Lindsey Weber producing it along with Abrams for Paramount. The project is still in the very early stages of development, so there are no creatives attached yet, and it’s still unclear as to whether it will be an animated or live-action feature.
Dream Jumper has an intriguing premise, and I’d be curious to check out Grunberg’s ability as a writer. I just may be adding this to my summer reading list.
