Samantha Bee’s Full Frontal Investigates HB2, Texas’ Anti-Choice Bill

Recommended Videos

This week, the Supreme Court will hear a case about HB2, a Texas law that has introduced new regulations on abortion clinics — regulations that look more like an attempt to shut down the clinics rather than actually benefit them. Bee interviews Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, and learns that the regulations include medically unnecessary rules about hallway width and janitorial closet size. By forcing clinics to obey these regulations, Texas all but ensures that the clinics will close.

In this video, Bee also interviews State Rep. Dan Flynn, one of the joint authors on HB2. Watching her go toe-to-toe with him is a rush — and it’s educational, too!

Unfortunately, if the Supreme Court ends up in a tie on this case — which is possible, now that there are only eight judges — it’ll be as though the case never got heard at all. Let’s hope they end up agreeing with Hogue that the regulations imposed on clinics are medically unnecessary and unfair.

Have you been watching Full Frontal with Samantha Bee? It airs once a week on Monday nights, and most of the clips end up on the show’s YouTube channel afterwards. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen of the show so far — and it can’t hurt that Bee’s creative team went out of their way to hire a diverse writers’ room. When it comes to political-skewering late night shows, Full Frontal is rocketing to the top of my list. What do you all think of it so far?
