So in spite of protests, in spite of those who said they would boycott Saturday Night Live after the late-night show brought Donald Trump on to host—last night’s episode went off relatively innocuously.
Compared to past hosts, Trump actually had only 12 total minutes of screentime—to compare, Amy Schumer clocked in at about 25 minutes when she hosted last month. Although Trump was relatively scarce in appearance, most of his visibility had him accompanied by other SNL cast members—with a surprise cameo by Larry David.
Coincidentally, David chose the moment of Trump’s opening monologue to heckle him from off-stage—and seemingly earned $5,000 as a result, referencing the rights group who had offered to front the cash to anyone who managed to disrupt the broadcast. (The group, Deport Racism, has made a statement that they will be awarding David the dough.)
Also: one Trump is more than enough, but three?
People tuned in, though—Saturday Night Live had its biggest audience since an episode in 2012, when Charles Barkley hosted.
