The hardcore Jim Henson fans among you may remember the 1980s British fantasy series Jim Henson’s The Storyteller, which aired on HBO and used live-action actors and puppets to retell classic European folk tales. Comics publisher Archaia has since adapted the series in comic form in limited series in 2011 and last year. Now, there’s a new installment coming later this year – The Storyteller: Dragons.

Like the other installments of the series, The Storyteller: Dragons will assemble the talents of some of comics’ best creators – folks like Fabian Rangel Jr., Daniel Bayliss, Nathan Pride, Hannah Christenson, and Jorge Corona. The four-issue series takes on the story of the Horned Snake and the Thunderbird, from Native American traditions; the Celtic tale of the Lambton Worm; a gender-switched retelling of a Russian folktale about a knight and squire fighting the three-headed dragon, Tugarin; and a Japanese tale about a young girl facing the dragon Yofune Nushi.

The Storyteller: Dragons will be released in December. In the meantime, which culture’s take on dragons are you looking forward to the most? What other cool dragon traditions are out there?
