That Xena: Warrior Princess Reboot Is Actually Happening (Again!)

NBC Entertainment’s chairman, Bob Greenblatt recently confirmed that–holy crap–yes, they are actually trying to reboot Xena: Warrior Princess despite what its star Lucy Lawless might say. Hold on, we need to find some pain killers and bandages for this severe case of “say what” whiplash.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, during a TCA press tour party, Greenblatt said, “Yes, we’re in the early stages of developing a new take on Xena and we’re looking for a writer. We want to do it.” He went on to explain the current situation and how he imagines it’ll all be laid out when he said, “I don’t think it’s just a continuation, but we haven’t gotten that far. I think it’s a great character, and we should try to figure out how to revive it somehow.”

But in perhaps the most distressing part of this whole take is the fact that Lawless may not be a part of it. When asked about more details, Greenblatt explained, “We’d love to have Lucy be a part of it — if we felt that her presence didn’t overshadow the direction we take with it. I’m not sure how she could be part of it if she wasn’t playing Xena, and I don’t know if that’s a direction we’ll ever go.”

NBC is aiming for a 2016 release of the rebooted series. As in next year. As in a year from now we might actually be talking about a new Xena (but the same Lawless, please). We truly are living in the future. Get your Chakrams ready, warrior princesses, and practice your battle cries.

All together now: AYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA!
