Summer Games Done Quick Wrecks Games, Benefits Rad Charity Doctors Without Borders

We mean wrecking games in a good way.

This weekend saw the start of Summer Games Done Quick, a twice-yearly event featuring some of the world’s best video game speed runners coming together to break records and beat big bads. The best part, though? They’re doing it all for charity. This summer’s event is benefitting Doctors Without Borders, an organization that brings healthcare to those most in need.

There’s something inexplicably neat about watching someone break a game in pursuit of beating it faster than anybody else. Maybe it’s just the ridiculousness of some of these bugs or the crazy things you have to do, but it’s just straight up fun to watch. And again, it just warms the cockles of my cold, barnacled heart to see people doing this for charity. Simply great.

You can catch the livestream over on Twitch, where they’ll be streaming all the runs live. There’s also a schedule of what games they’re going to be playing over on their main site. The event runs until August 1st, so definitely give it a look-see. Maybe you can even donate a little, why not?
