Best Buy and Target Begin Used Game Trade-Ins

Recommended Videos

Not long after THQ announced its war on used game buyers, both Best Buy and Target announced they’ll be starting their own used game trade-in programs. Both programs are similar in scope, but differ in details.

Best Buy’s program is focused solely on trading in used video games and returns a Best Buy gift card that can be used on anything in the store. The program is now live at over 600 stores in the United States, in conjunction with a pre-owned games and trade-in site. Although Target’s program is similar in that it offers store credit, it differs in that it accepts trade-ins of old electronic devices, rather than only video games. Target’s program is currently only available in northern California, but it plans to reach over 850 stores by the year’s end.

Oddly enough, while Best Buy plans to eventually sell used games, Target hasn’t announced any such tactic, which tempts one to wonder exactly where all that stuff goes.
