Spider-Man News: Actor Shortlist Announced; New Animated Film In the Works

So much Spider-Man, so little time...

There is so much happening in the world of Spider-Man! First, we’re getting ever-closer to casting Peter Parker, who’ll first make a brief appearance in Captain America: Civil War, which starts filming in June, then in the live-action Spider-Man film that’s due to hit theaters in 2017.

Sony is going to be making test offers to young actors within the next 2-3 weeks, and the shortlist of actors they’re considering includes Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Asa Butterfield (Hugo), Tom Holland (The Impossible), Timothee Chalamet (Interstellar) and Liam James (Psych). While that’s not the entire shortlist, and there are certainly names on the short-list that are being kept under wraps, we can note the obvious fact that all of the released names belong to white actors. Just in case you missed it. However, they are all in the right age range for the high-school-focused story they want to tell, with Wolff being the oldest at 20.

In other Spider-Man news, there’s an animated film on its way, which will apparently co-exist with the live-action Spider-Man film, but will stand alone in its own universe.  Best of all, it’s being helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the duo behind The LEGO Movie, 22 Jump Street, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs!

Whew! Looks like Spidey’s gonna be getting a workout the next couple of years! What do you think of all this news?
