According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn has signed on to co-write Widows, the lady-led heist movie from Twelve Years a Slave director Steve McQueen.

Based off the ’80s miniseries from Lynda La Plante, Widows will follow four women determined to pull off a raid together after their armed-robber husbands are killed in the act. (I nominate every actress who didn’t get her due in the Ghostbusters reboot).

I haven’t seen Gone Girl (arguably now Flynn’s best-known work), but I’m curious how TMS readers felt about the film—having only read some of Flynn’s earlier books, I’ve personally always been impressed by her uncompromising and often unlikeable female characters, but a common criticism of Gone Girl seems to be that the strength of its female character is overshadowed by the film’s commentary on rape.

Are you excited about Flynn being attached to the project? How do you think her and McQueen’s voices will shape this adaptation?
