Sony’s PlayStation Network—along with Microsoft’s Xbox Live—was hit with outages and spotty service on Christmas, and for a few days after, due to DDoS attacks from a group called the Lizard Squad. Your holidays may have been ruined by a console with crippled capabilities, but Sony’s got some belated gifts to make it up to you. Unfortunately, those gifts do not include five extra days of vacation to make use of them.

In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony left a note of appreciate for customers’ patience over the holidays (as though they had any other choice than to wait out the end of their torment). They’ll also automatically give all PlayStation Plus users, including any on free trial memberships, an automatic membership extension of five days—basically giving them back their lost time.

Sony didn’t legally have to do it, and PlayStation Plus members are sure to appreciate it, but giving people back their lost time is really the least they could have done.

But that’s not all! Every PSN user is also entitled to a one-time 10% discount on a cart full of goodies from the digital PlayStation Store. So go ahead and load up your shopping cart if you want to really take advantage of Sony’s guilt trip to smooth over your crushed Christmas dreams.
