Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Movie Crawls Back from the Dead With New Actors

"Oh, I do say, brains!"

What a long, strange road it’s been for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the movie adaptation of that one book that was such a big deal back in 2009. It lost three directors and a Gossip Girl star, then got a cash infusion and an Instrumental new Lizzie Bennet. After over a year without a peep or a quiet undead groan of any sort, this time it’s actually being filmed, the studio swears. But which actors did they get to star?

That would be Downton Abbey’s Lily James (also our new Cinderella) as Elizabeth Bennet, Maleficent‘s Sam Riley (ohai Diaval!) as Mr. Darcy, and Australian actress Bella Heathcote as “Elizabeth’s sister,” so probably Jane. Deadline tells us that Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston is also in talks. As before, it’s being directed by Burr Steers, best known for 17 Again. Principal shooting will commence in September, unless of course the zombie apocalypse happens first.

What do you think? Personally, I was never looking forward to this movie all that much anyway, so I’m biased, but Jesus Christ, does anyone care about the “classic story… BUT WITH SUPERNATURAL CREATURES ADDED!” thing anymore? Didn’t that die with the inexorable flopitude of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which was based on another book by Zombies author Seth Grahame-Smith? 2009-2012 was a weird time. But we’re all much older and wiser now, right?
