Warner Bros. Refuses to Let Akira Adaptation Die, Brings Back Director

This is why we can't have nice things.

There was once a time when the world seemed more just. Kids played outside, the streets were clean, and the Akira live-action adaptation that Warner Bros. has been trying to force down our throats seemed dead in the water. That time is over.

Variety reports that one-time director Jaume Collet-Serra is in talks to come back to the film. You may recall that he left the project back in 2012 after pre-production halted — kind of a pain to wait around while the script gets reworked and budget gets slashed. But now he’s back, or at least in “discussions,” and Warner Bros. supposedly loves his vision. Ugh.

Granted, I’d probably never be happy with any kind of adaptation of Akira that deviates too far from my fond memories of the animated film. Also, yes, I get that it was a manga before that, but the film is what I have more experience with.

Assuming this continues to be a thing, look for actual production and such to start in 2014.
