Civilization: Network Coming to Facebook in June: Eat That, FarmVille

Gamers weaned on Sid Meier‘s Civilization and tired of the waves of zombies, mafiosi, and Farmville farmers who accost you daily on Facebook, rejoice: Civilization: Network, a Civ-based Facebook game, is coming out in beta in June.

Variety:

The game will use Facebook’s social qualities to let fans play solo, competitive or cooperative games in a persistent world. It will, like other social network games, be free to play as well.

“Civilization Network will allow you to join together with your friends to create the world’s most powerful, richest, smartest, or just plain coolest civilization,” said Meier in the initial announcement. “You can coordinate your strategy to win great battles, share your technology to jump ahead of your rivals, lobby your family and friends to form your own government and win vital elections, manage and grow your cities to maximize production and happiness, spy on your enemies, and work with your friends to create the great Wonders of the World.”

Wonders, battles, and espionage > crops, pinstripes, and livestock, so: suffice it to say, we’re looking forward to this one.
