Potential Replacement Director Adam McKay Turns Down Ant-Man

This does not bode well. On Friday, Marvel was in talks with Anchorman director Adam McKay, in hopes that he would replace Edgar Wright at the Ant-Man helm. The buzz around the internet was that this was pretty much a done deal. But yesterday, we found out that McKay chose to pass on the project. Right then. That was fast.

This does not bode well. On Friday, Marvel was in talks with Anchorman director Adam McKay, in hopes that he would replace Edgar Wright at the Ant-Man helm. The word on the street was that this was pretty much a done deal. But yesterday, we found out that McKay chose to pass on the project. Right then. That was fast.

McKay commented on his decision via Twitter, stating that he had other projects that took priority.

As we discussed earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter included McKay in its shortlist of potential Ant-Man directors (provided by anonymous sources, so take it with a grain of salt). If that list is legit, that means we’re down to two candidates: Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less, Gangster Squad) and Rawson Marshall Thurber (We’re the Millers, Dodgeball). It’s entirely possible that Marvel has someone else up their sleeve, so we’ll see. In any case, the future of Ant-Man is starting to look a bit grim. I’m still hopeful that it’ll pull through somehow, but…yeah, I’m not feeling good about this.
