Kevin Feige Envisions a World in Which We Get Four Marvel Movies a Year

He then turned to the nearest Warner Bros. executive, threw his arms out to the side, palms open, shouted “Now what? NOW WHAT?” and did a little, strutting dance. Well, not really.

But he does see a future in which Marvel Entertainment would be releasing a new movie quarterly.

Feige recently spoke to Badass Digest about how he sees the Marvel universe widening and growing in Phase 3 and beyond, as it incorporates television shows, movies, shorts, and even several Netflix series.

I don’t know that we will necessarily say “Okay, we’re now moving strategically to three a year, now we’re moving to four a year.” What I think is more likely – if [knocks on wood-like table] the next group of movies work and people want to see additional stories – we’ll have too many franchises and you can’t do one of each franchise every two or three years. We’d have to move to three a year, but that would have to be a natural move if it were to occur. We’d have a [script] draft, we’d have a filmmaker, we’d have a character the audience wants to see – let’s slot in a place for a third one. Or a fourth one.

By the “next group of movies” Feige is almost certainly looking ahead to the time when Thor 3, Captain America 3, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are rubbing shoulders with brand new franchises Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and maybe even the Black Widow film he has been teasing so often lately that it’s actually starting to get annoying, and the potential for a Defenders film if the Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist Netflix series take off. That’s a lot of characters to follow, much less cram into an Avengers plotline every couple of years or so.

That said, I’m much more excited about seeing them try than I am about watching Warner Bros. do the same.
