Yep, there is going to be another DC-related television show. What makes it different from Arrow, The Flash series, the upcoming Constantine showGotham, or Hourman, you might ask? Well, at long last, this one has a female protagonist. Also zombies. Lady zombies!

iZombie is a Vertigo Comics title that ran from 2010 to 2012, created by Chris Roberson and Michael Allred. It focuses on a young gravedigger named Gwen Dylan who finds herself turned into one of the undead, and must eat a human brain once a month to keep herself going. The cool twist? She absorbs the memories of the dead person’s brain, which causes her a whole new host of complications. The series is being written and produced by Diane Ruggiero and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas. Deadline describes the show:

iZombie, from Warner Bros TV and Rob Thomas Prods, is a supernatural crime procedural that centers on a med student-turned-zombie who takes a job in the coroner’s office to gain access to the brains she must reluctantly eat to maintain her humanity. But with each brain she consumes, she inherits the corpse’s memories, and with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective, she solves homicide cases in order to quiet the disturbing voices in her head.”

Solvin’ crimes, zombie style. That strays a bit from the comic’s premise but crime shows are always a safe bet, zombies are in, and comic book television shows are taking over the world, so I guess that the CW and Warners finally feel safe taking on that oh-so-risky venture that is the Female Protagonist (this is my sarcasm voice, Warners). Plus, they have Thomas, who is known for creating one of the most iconic female-centric detective shows ever. Maybe they’ll even go all the way and cast Kristen Bell. Oh, no. Now that I’ve said that, I really want it. Zombie Veronica Mars sounds like the best AU fan fiction in the world.

Speaking of AUs, no word on whether Thomas is still doing that modern Les Misérables show for Fox. Ditch it, Rob, and focus on the zombies. It was a really weird idea anyway. I’m going to be watching this as soon as it comes out, and, in the meantime, I’m going to catch up on the comics because I looked up the first issue and apparently one of the characters is a were-terrier. A were-terrier. Brilliant.
