64-year-old Richmond man sits down to watch a football game. Then police find his wife allegedly taped to a chair in the basement

Terry Ward faces a felony abduction charge after police found his wife restrained in their basement while he watched football. The 64-year-old Richmond resident allegedly kept his wife tied to a chair in the lower level of their home on October 11.

According to Virginia Statewide Incidents LLC on Facebook, officers arrived at the residence in the 2200 block of Maplewood Avenue around 11:30 PM. They were responding to a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, the responding officers took a report from an adult female who claimed she had been held against her will.

The criminal complaint offers a disturbing look at the situation. The woman told police that her husband had used tape to secure her to a chair in the basement. She estimated that she remained in that position for about 30 to 45 minutes. When police examined the woman, they noted visible marks and tape residue on both of her arms.

Terry Ward has allegedly confessed to the crime

It seems Ward did not try to hide his actions when police confronted him. The responding officer documented a confession from the man within the criminal complaint. The officer wrote, “Ward Terry stated that he did indeed tied his wife, [name omitted], to a chair and place her down in the basement.”

While his wife was allegedly held captive downstairs, sources indicate that Ward spent his time watching a football game upstairs. This detail makes the situation feel even more bizarre and disconnected. I think it is hard to fathom how someone could remain so calm while a family member is restrained in the same house.

Authorities took Ward into custody on the night of the incident. He now faces a felony abduction charge along with a misdemeanor assault charge related to a family member. These are serious legal matters that will play out in the coming weeks.

The trial for Ward will continue in November

The legal process has already begun for Ward. Online court records show that his initial arraignment and bond hearing were continued earlier this week. He is currently waiting for his next court appearance, which is scheduled for November 10. This hearing will take place in the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

It is important to remember that these details come from official police reports and court documents. The claims regarding the duration of the restraint and the motivation behind the incident are part of an ongoing legal case. We will have to see what information comes to light when the case moves forward in court next month. For now, the charges against Ward remain the focus of the investigation.
