Tomorrow, The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announces their nominations for this year’s Oscars. From there, we’ll speculate and passionately make the case for the best films and modern classics of 2016, add several new films to our watchlist, and more. Today, though, we have a look at the nominations for the 37th Golden Raspberry Awards, to give credit to the worst films this year.
2016 films were apparently so bad the Razzies decided to expand to six nominees per category, with Batman v Superman and Zoolander No. 2 receiving the most nominations. Also earning a number of nominations is the film we all kind of tried to forget about, AKA the colonial fantasy Gods of Egypt. While Batman v Superman is probably one of the most disappointing films in this list (was anyone expecting critical acclaim for Dirty Grandpa?) because of how much better we all thought it could be, it’s by no means the most offensive when you remember that was a thing.
There’s also a nomination for Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad performance, the “Entire Cast of Once Respected Actors” in Collateral Beauty, and Boo! A Madea Halloween. Putting Tyler Perry, whose Madea series is based on the idea that men in women’s clothing is funny in the “Worst Actress,” however, seems to be insensitive at best.
