Wonder Woman Has Found Its Villain in Harry Potter Alum David Thewlis … Allegedly

Thanks to a kick ass trailer, Wonder Woman looks to be in good shape. And if the rumors about a certain villain casting is true, the film has earned a few extra brownie points in my eyes.

Word around the interwebs is that Harry Potter alum David Thewlis, who was cast in Wonder Woman in an unknown role, will play Ares, the Greek god of war. You might remember him as ousted Hogwarts professor Remus Lupin, who also happened to be a Marauder, as well as a member of the Order of the Phoenix. It’s already been confirmed that Ares will appear in the film, even though he has yet to pop up in any of the promotional trailers released so far.

According to SlashFilm, he’s after the scientific formula for a deadline gas that has the power to wipe out humanity. Unfortunately, that formula is in the possession of Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine) who finds himself under Wonder Woman’s (played by Gal Gadot) protection after his plane is shot down. The film will cover the Amazonian princess’s role in the war to end all wars as she discovers her powers, which she chooses to use for good.

Wonder Woman arrives in theaters on June 2.
