Rush Limbaugh Thinks The Dark Knight Rises’ Bane Is Part Of A Political Agenda [LOL]

“Have you heard, this new movie, the Batman movie — what is it, the Dark Knight Lights Up or something? Whatever the name of it is. That’s right, Dark Knight Rises, Lights Up, same thing. Do you know the name of the villain in this movie? Bane. The villain in the Dark Knight Rises is named Bane. B-A-N-E. What is the name of the venture capital firm that Romney ran, and around which there’s now this make-believe controversy? Bain. The movie has been in the works for a long time, the release date’s been known, summer 2012 for a long time. Do you think that it is accidental, that the name of the really vicious, fire-breathing, four-eyed, whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane? … Anyway, so this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there’s now discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful, and whether or not it will influence voters. It’s going to have a lot of people. This movie, the audience is going to be huge, lot of people are going to see the movie. And it’s a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd. And they’re going to hear ‘Bane’ in the movie, and they are going to associate Bain. And the thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, not Bain Capital, but Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie — ‘Oh yeah, I know who that is.’ There are some people who think it will work. There are some people think it will work. Others think — ‘You’re really underestimating the American people who think that will work.’”Rush Limbaugh on his syndicated radio show today.

  • Bain Capital was founded in 1984.
  • Bane, the Batman villain, was created in 1993.
  • Bane drops mic.

I like how he treats his ignorance of what he’s speaking about (“Dark Knight Lights Up or whatever it is…”) as a point of pride.

  • TKS

He’s totally right!  It must be a conspiracy.

What other conspiracies could be connected to this…OH!  Jon Stewart mentioned this EXACT THING the night before as a joke.  Jon must have used a time machine to travel FORWARD in time and steal this from Rush.

    Puppet strings.  Puppet strings everywhere.

And , of course, whenever the X-Men go up against the evil mutant known as The Blob, that’s clearly a personal attack on Limbaugh.

If they were really going to make an entire Batman movie to associate Mitt Romney with a villain, wouldn’t Two Face be more appropriate? :)

Didn’t production on TDKR start long before Romney started on his presidential campaign?  Does Limbaugh think films are made in a few months?

Well we already know the Democrats will stoop to using time travel to manipulate politics. How else would Obama’s birth announcement be in those Hawaii newspapers? So clearly they went back and convinced somebody in DC to craft a Batman villain specifically to take down the Chosen One’s rival!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001470948875 Caitie Foster

Because it’s not like “bane” is a legitimate English word, or anything.  I mean, I know there’s a “wolfsbane” and a “henbane” plant, and every other sword in Lord of the Rings is named “something’s-bane”, and there’s that whole idiom that something is “the bane of my existence” and all.  But that’s probably all coincidence, right?  Because it’s just a nice sound.  Also, clearly the punk band Bane is up to the same thing.  Curse those Liberals!  *shakes fist*

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=39603889 Lauren Seals

I’ve been thinking for weeks about this actually— why would you name a company like this a homonym to such a negative word? It’s just asking for the evil Lexcorp treatment.

“It has been observed that movies can reflect the
national mood,” said Democratic advisor and former Clinton aide
Christopher Lehane. “Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the
Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are
similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past
both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on
    pillaging society,” he added.

    http://bit.ly/SFKnco

So yeah … someone definitely can be that much of a dumbass. And in case others are being likewise, Limbaugh is obviously mocking and making fun of the above dumbasses.

Unfortunately some people are comparing the two names to score political points.

Dear Rush, it those brain-dead Americans who like pop culture who run your interwebs and build your computers and software. Don’t talk about things you don’t know anything about, it makes you sound ignorant to millions of “brain-dead” Americans who are about to pour hundreds of millions into the movie industry this weekend.

He’s only 61. It’s not too late for an abortion.

Which is why the Mary Sue didn’t take 10 seconds to see that Monday someone else brought this up first, nor did they take even the most basic check of his site to see what his full comments were. Because this is a Lib-leaning site.

Also, I highly doubt anyone on TMS staff is a listener, so where did they get this? Media Matters, MoveOn, or some other bottom of the barrel site?

About tired of my geek getting covered in political feces.

  • zaprowsdower

I cannot stop laughing. Hoooly shit.

  • Anonymous

If you had included a link to his full comments, I for one would have clicked over to read. Really. Alas, it’s now too polarized for my geek.
Time for some Okami OST as a palate cleanser. Mmmm. Soothing.

  • Adam R. Charpentier

Does it matter whether TheMarySue was the first to mention it? This isn’t really a news exclusive website…

Also, if you’re tired with your geek getting covered in political feces, I’m not sure how you ever became a fan at all since almost all fantasy and science fiction have origins in allegory and themes that are or were fresh when they debut.

  • TKS

I think it’s coincidental.  I think Bain is named after the guy that started it.  The company can’t help if it was founded by a super villain.

  • TKS

Judging by phrases like “Lib-leaning” and “bottom of the barrel” I am guessing you aren’t tired of getting your geek covered in “political feces,” but “political feces with which you disagree.”

If that’s the case, perhaps you should avoid a feminist blog.  (Fair warning, if you hate liberal politics so much, most geek sites tend to side with the subjugated.  Seeing as now many geeks spend their young lives being pushed around.)

  • http://twitter.com/GrooPunk GrooPunk

Yes… “obviously mocking”.  I liked that time he was “obviously mocking” Obama’s decision to send military advisors to help in the fight against the Lords Resistance Army.  Hilarious.  That Rush: always on top of the game.

  • Anonymous

It’s not the “Bane” name (that is a coincidence).  But there is a theme in the new movie that is the whole class warfare/haves-vs-have-nots/1% type of thing.  Which, coming from Hollywood is a bit presumptuous and tiring.

  • Anonymous

Furthermore, it was the Democrats who first said publicly that they would use this movie as an example.

“It has been observed that movies can reflect the national mood,” said Democratic advisor and former Clinton aide Christopher Lehane. “Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on pillaging society,” he added.

So, Limbaugh was responding to Lehane’s goofy analysis.

  • Anonymous

You would have regretted it. I don’t care where a person stands in regards to politics, Rush is a joke on either side.

This is one of those tragic times in which i have to agree with you. Not on the politics stuff, since i’m not a citizen of your coutnry, with its extremely flawed political system, so i don’t care one way or the other.

However as far as reporting goes, bad reporting is reporting that is bad. An reporting that is completely inaccurate is the definition of bad reporting.

An yes i agree that quote mining is a very liberal form of argumentation. As far as i’m concerned Darwin was right when he said, accurate information is the true wealth of the world.

Not sure what you are getting at here. The Mary Sue is not an news-exclusive site, and just because somebody brought it up first doesn’t mean they can’t make fun of it. It relates to the usual topics of this site, right?
As for the “lib-leaning”, please. You don’t have to be “liberal” to make fun of Rush Limbaugh. Being “sane” is sufficient.

  • http://twitter.com/MrMinion Mr. Minion

You are missing the point. It’s one – and admittedly stupid – thing to try and connect a movie villain to a political candidate just because their names are phonetically similar. It’s a completely different – and much more paranoid and brain-hared – thing to rhetorically ask if this was a long-planned liberal conspiracy just to keep up the meme of the interconnected liberal media-cabal.

  • http://twitter.com/MrMinion Mr. Minion

BTW, here’s the transcript of the show. Please read them and then tell me what else he said that made the above quote any less insane: http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/07/17/the_batman_campaign

    Because I couldn’t find anything.

  • http://twitter.com/AbelUndercity Abel Undercity

So Rush’s quote was taken out of context?  Seems like a complete statement to me.  As for it being a “liberal form of argumentation,” I suggest you take a gander at Fox News whenever they take half a sentence from the president to mean the exact opposite of what he was saying.

My favorite part of this is that if he actually paid attention to the plot of the movie, it has a much more conservative message than a liberal one, as pointed out here – http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/filmblog/2012/jul/17/dark-knight-rises-capitalist-superhero

(Doesn’t stop my enjoyment of it)

This is a really disgusting piece. It was obvious that he was laughing at the idea that wasn’t even his in the first place, and he goes on to call it a ridiculous comparison. I love you guys, Mary Sue, but come on. Not cool. If you wanted to talk about the stupid Bane=bane capital idea then you should have done it in the frame of those who created it not Rush Limbaugh. I can like geeking out, I can like feminism, I can’t like blatantly spininng things because you have a grudge against someone.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Evan-Jones-III/20919189 Evan Jones III

I love how it has gotten so desperate now that they are going to name a connection between a comicbook villain & whatever political theater is hot right about now. But hey all its going to do is make the movie more popular, remember the Da Vinci Code and how people just were up in arms about it making it the success it was.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R7GVNIKWG3S2UTHEQOMSZXT4M4 Anna B

God, I wish I had gotten earlier to this party. Now every clever thing that could be joked about this has been joked. Every snarky comment has been snarked.

Has anyone mentioned yet that Rush and Mitt might have been in the same time machine that allowed Mitt to retroactively resign? Maybe, Rush went with him and inadvertently self-fulfilled his own conspiracy theory?  No?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R7GVNIKWG3S2UTHEQOMSZXT4M4 Anna B

You know what really pisses me off? So many people who have met him in person profess that he’s not the same guy in real life as he is on the radio–that’s he’s actually a nice guy. I think that makes me hate him even more. That’s bulls**t. Two-faced son of a you-know-what. He’s feeding garbage into weaker minds for money? That it’s all just an act? That’s just evil.  And stupid.

  • Anonymous

They posted a link to the complete show transcript, what was said was extensive and in-context.  Since you’re incapable of knowing anything about Fox News, I’d say take a gander at any right-wing ‘news’ outlet – where I live, that would be the Daily Mail, Telegraph, et al, who do this on a regular basis (when they’re not just making shit up off the top of their heads)

  • Adam R. Charpentier

I wholeheartedly agree. Unless your public face is a luchador mask, you can’t pretend you’re an asshole and then expect the public to believe it’s all about the ratings. If your mind is devious enough to think up, and you”re not so squeamish that you can’t run with every stupid, bigot bullshit thing you have to say, then that is who you are.

  • Adam R. Charpentier

If I’m allowed to run with my theory that he’s a comic book loving slug and as likely to be a Brony, it wouldn’t be a stretch at all to theorize that he’d try to use the funds he’s made off ignorant people buying his worthless asswipe books to build his own functioning TARDIS…and now that I thought of it, wasn’t there a little girl that had her TARDIS stolen a few months back? I think we’ve found the culprit.

  • Adam R. Charpentier

A point I can’t entirely agree with, only because I think that there’s always a right and wrong side…I agree with the joke bit however.

  • http://www.facebook.com/marshall.fryman.3 Marshall Fryman

I mean, let’s be real, the funniest part about is this that he thinks the average American voter/movie goer even knows enough to understand what Bain Capital is.

  • Paul Boylan

“And there’s now discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful, and whether or not it will influence voters. It’s going to have a lot of people.”

There isn’t “discussion out there.”  If there is, Limbaugh created it from whole cloth by saying “there is discussion out there.”  Creating discussion by saying “there is discussion out there” is a form of journalistic fraud designed to fool stupid people. It is also a form of political fraud, designed to do the same thing, perpetrated by the worst people.  Michelle Bachman and Sarah Palin – the very bottom of the political bottom feeders – did it, too.

At least that’s what I’ve heard.

  • http://twitter.com/LoweBurgh Mark Lowe

Did any of you look past the headline and read the article? He’s referring to some of Romney’s opposition who suggested last week that they were hoping to use Bane against Romney due to the comparisons with Bain. Limbaugh isn’t the one who suggested a connection, he’s disputing the connection and suggest that the American people aren’t dumb enough to fall for those who make the comparison.

In other news, Internet headline fools hundreds of dupes…

Interesting timing for Limbaugh. This happened right after the Daily Show came back from summer break. One of the their first Romney jokes was to say that it was funny that Romney’s former company had the same name as the current Batman villain. He can’t even think up his own stupid material.

Rush Limbaugh. Because reading comics is for filthy Liberals!
Bane. Super-strong, vicious, breathes fire, and has four eyes.

  • http://www.wordflow.webs.com/ Invisible_Jester89

If you’re tired of your geek getting Politics in it, then maybe you shouldn’t attack a geek website as “Lib-leaning” and question on where they got the information from. The answer is obvious – they got this information from Rush Limbaugh, and they are laughing at him because Limbaugh didn’t do the research on Bane, a fictional comic book character. Don’t be so quick to put politics where there really isn’t any, only making fun of someone who said something stupid who happens to be in Politics. :)

  • http://www.wordflow.webs.com/ Invisible_Jester89

Whoops. I accidentally “Liked” Kelly’s obnoxious comment when I meant to reply to her and ask why she has such a problem with American government and media, yet sides with right-wing American beliefs. What the heck is going on in your country, Kelly? I’m pretty sure there are news sources that lean towards one political party or another where you come from. Take a chill pill and stop slamming America when your own government probably has faults too. A lot of us over here are aware of the flaws, thanks, and your smarmy “nah-nah Americans are stupid” attitude does nobody here any favors. Stop copping a ‘tude about a country you don’t live in, especially if you don’t like said country. Just come out and say you don’t like America. Why is that so hard?

Somewhere the Doctor is crying knowing that someone has even tangently related him to Rush Limbaugh. When Cybermen need to communicate something beyond illogical, they just use “Rush Limbaugh”. The TARDIS marks areas of extreme ignorance in space-time with “Rush Limbaugh”. The reason that Daleks hate humans, besides feeling they’re the superior race to everything else in the universe, is because Rush Limbaugh is a human. The Gallefreyans, before their planet was destroyed, once wanted humans to be protected, but then they heard about Rush Limbaugh and decided to stop caring. The Weeping Angels are afraid to look at Rush Limbaugh for any length of time because they’re afraid that if they do, there will be a tiny image of Rush Limbaugh stuck in THEIR eye. The Silence only wishes it could turn around and forget about Rush Limbaugh the way humans forget about them.

Yep, what he says is completely true, though I am surprised even Rush was too liberal to put together the communistic conspiracy by leftist homosexuals to discredit the Republican party with their movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a movie about a 12 foot tall axe murderer (that breathes fire and also suspiciously has four eyes) who just happens to have the same name as republic candidate Abraham Lincoln. Conspiracy? I think so.

    Haha. Stupid Rush Limbaugh.
