Monday Cute: Scientists Can’t Handle How Cute This Stubby Squid Is

Recommended Videos

The ocean is, more often than not, a horrifying nightmarish place filled with ungodly creatures and the sounds of all-consuming dread. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have it’s own charms and adorable creatures like this one EVNautilus spotted during a dive (you know, until this real-life Pokémon evolves into something less cute).

The Youtube description explains that the “Stubby Squid” (yes, really) or rossia pacifica, looks like a little octopus or squid, but is more closely related to cuttlefish. It was was spotted “off the coast of California at a depth of 900 meters (2,950 feet).”

Even better than ol’ Stubbs, though, is the team’s reaction upon seeing it. “It’s like some little kid dropped their toy!” exclaims one. Another scientist essentially becomes every kid at an aquarium and says, “Do something!” What do you think about Stubby Squid? Cute or weird?
