Miles Morales May Be Spider-Man in Sony’s Next Animated Film

Though we won’t be seeing him on the big screen in live action any time soon, we just heard some pretty great news. Miles Morales may be Spider-Man in Sony’s next animated Spidey feature!

As reported by Umberto Gonzalez over at Heroic Hollywood, his sources tell him that Miles Morales is going to be the protagonist of the upcoming Phil Lord and Chris Miller animated Spider-Man film due from Sony in December 2018.

He also brings up the fact that he may have gotten a clue about this at last year’s Cinemacon, when Tom Rothman, chairman of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, said of the animated film, “The film will exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing,” leaving room for this animated project to step away from the Peter Parker route.

As a proud Puerto Rican myself, I’m thrilled that Miles is finally getting some feature-length love. I wish it were live-action, don’t get me wrong, but an animated feature film can be just as powerful a piece of representation as anything else. Especially for a younger audience.
