Matt Smith Is Officially Done Filming Doctor Who, Is Moving On To An American Psycho Musical

The World Doesn't End Because the Doctor Dances

Well. That’s quite a change.

Matt Smith fans, sorry to prod an open wound, but last weekend the actor filmed his final scene as the Doctor. Producer Marcus Wilson—who, like Smith, is leaving after this year’s Christmas special—Tweeted the following message:

“So it’s goodnight from me, and it’s goodnight from him. That’s a wrap. Christmas 2013. Thank you all.”

Pause for crying gifs.

In happier news, Peter Capaldi reportedly filmed his first scenes as Twelve on October third. The era of Capaldi is coming. MUAHAHAHAHA!

But worry not, Smith fans. He’ll be on your movie screens when Ryan Gosling’s How to Catch a Monster comes out, and now he has a new project lined up as well: A musical version of American Psycho, where he’ll be playing Patrick Bateman. Smith has done theater before, though not, to my knowledge, a musical. Still, Smith as murderous yuppie investment banker Bateman? I can see it. There were parts of his Doctor Who tenure when he really let some inner darkness out. And an American Psycho musical… it seems weird at first, but I can see that, too. I wonder if the musical stylings of Huey Lewis & The News will make an appearance.

The musical will be running in London’s West End from December 3rd to January 25 , 2014. Anyone up for a trip?
