Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Stop What You’re Doing And Look at Jessica Chastain As Merida

This is the latest entry in Annie Leibovitz “Disney Dream Portrait” series, in which celebs are photographed as Disney characters to promote Disney parks. (Here’s Jennifer Hudon as Princess Tiana, for example.) The hair.

The Jennifer Hudson link takes you to a report on Arrow from last August.

  • Rachel Banzhaf

Scroll down for the Tiana picture.

  • Chris de la Rosa

I keep loving the composition as an artist, but also hating the pose as an archer. Damn you, brain!

  • Yukahana

No it take you to a “things we saw today” report including a picture of Arrow and Jennifer Hudson as Tiana.

I’m partial to the Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segel Hitchhiking Ghosts one myself.

    But… HAAAAAAIR….

  • Alice Ruppert

Is that just me or does the picture look like photoshop? I mean, she wasn’t actually on the horse and in that landscape for the shoot, right?

Duh! Who else could even be Merida?

  • Anonymous

Nah they never are. Most of these Disney Dream Portraits are heavily p’shopped.

I would have liked to see them try Felicia Day.

There were two horses, one real, one fake. However, the real horse that she was on didn’t have a white muzzle, so my guess is that they used the shots with her on the fake horse and then photoshopped a real one in to give it a more action pose and to make it look more like the one in the movie.

I really love these series. It’s great she’s still doing them!

  • Chiara

I have a serious case of hair envy!

  • Lisa Liscoumb

    ^^^This!

My one complaint is that Jessica Chastain is extremely waif-like in this photo, where as Mereida in the animated movie was not. I would have liked to see a Mereida with a bit more meat on her bones.

  • Alice Ruppert

I realized that after looking at some other ones.

  • Alice Ruppert

Thank you for the link. However, as cryofpaine stated, she is also shown on a fake one.
They took photos on a horse standing in front of a white screen, not galloping as the one in the picture.

Who do you think could be photographed as the sisters from Frozen? I keep seeing the Natalie Dormer (with blond hair) fancast as Elsa, and I approve.

  • Jeremy

    Personally, I prefer Viriginia Hankins.

Virginia Hankins (wish I could post photos)

Hmmm…She makes me think of Lily Cole.

  • Ashe

Her hair isn’t swallowing up half of the shot, though!

  • Eve

I agree! She really has Merida’s strong build and face. By that I mean the REAL Merida, not the awful cloned one they’re marketing on the princess merch now.

  • Eve

Yes, I wish Disney would stop trying to skinny her down. She’s beautiful just as she was in the movie!

  • David H

I was coming here to make a joke about this. You beat me too it.

  • Eric C. Campbell

Yeah Annie looks pretty bad ass here. But yeah. Virginia Hankins. I mean, there was a moment before Brave came out where everyone was wondering if Pixar modeled the character after her.

Could of been someone Scottish tbh

All of Leibovvitz’s Disney pics seem to have that same look. It almost looks like they shop it to look like part picture and part faux painting.

It’s definitely a unique style. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I’m super meh on it.
