Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Really Put the Kids’ Humor in This Kids’ Choice Awards Clip

During last night’s 30th Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, Disney and Marvel aired a promo clip from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the scene, Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) argue over who is “the greatest pilot in the universe” and should steer their ship through a terrifying situation.

While the humor was one of my favorite elements in the first Guardians film, the jokes in this segment were a bit heavy on the potty humor. Let’s hope that was a result some ill-advised pandering to the Kids’ Choice audience, and not a reflection of the script overall.

In the clip, Rocket threatens, “Later on tonight, you’re going to be laying down, and there’s going to be something squishy in your pillowcase–and it’s going to be because I put a turd in there!”

Quill replies, “You put your turd in my bed, I shave you.”

“Oh, it won’t be my turd,” answers Rocket. “It’ll be Drax’s.”

Drax then roars with laughter and says, “I have famously huge turds.”

I don’t think kids are unable to appreciate more sophisticated humor than this, but I would imagine the executives over at Disney and Marvel thought the poop humor would really appeal to this audience. And they might be right!

However, I didn’t personally get much of a laugh out of this one, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that the movie has some better lines than this up its sleeve.

How did you feel about it, though?

Written and directed by James Gunn, and also starring Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Kurt Russell, Zoe Saldana, and the voice talents of Vin Diesel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is due in theaters on May 5, 2017.
