Relevant to Your Interests: The Badass Feminist Coloring Book Kickstarter

Sometimes all I want to do is crack out a few coloring books, especially when I need a small calming break from the bullshit of adulthood. While there’ve been a recent-ish slew of coloring books “for adults” doing the rounds, including the delightful Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest from Johanna Basford (which I’m personally enjoying in my downtime), when I saw this project I squealed out loud.

The Badass Feminist Coloring Book Kickstarter has both the feminist and coloring fanatic in me tickled pink!

The Badass Feminist Coloring Book features (as you may have guessed) well known feminists like Jenny Yang (comedian/writer) and Lindy West (writer), and many others, and includes inspiring quotes from these badasses alongside their images. Ijeoma Oluo (@ljeomaOluo), the creator of the book, writes in the Kickstarter page, “you’re never too old for coloring books & you’re never too young for feminism!,” which should give you an idea of the fun but radical approach to the project. This book is both a heralding of diverse body types, backgrounds and images, and aims to provide feminists with another sense of community and ongoing dialogue, with the ability to see in one another the beauty that comes from our differences and similarities.

As of writing, the Kickstarter closes in 6 days and has raised almost $15,000! While the initial goal of $4000 has swiftly come and gone, you’ll probably want this book in your life and should snap it up fast while you still have the chance. And if you need an added incentive to back the project, 25% of the money raised goes straight to the featured feminists. So, the more the Kickstarter raises, the more money goes to support the women featured AND Oluo can add even more feminists for us to color and celebrate! Totally. Rad. Project.
