Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

DC’s Women Know How To Spend Ladies’ Night

So boss. We discovered this epic illustration by Kyle Latino after stumbling upon a fantastic new Tumblr – Real Girls Gaming. Now, what kind of characters do you think each lady would be playing? Would they play to type or go in the opposite direction? Also, I bet Wonder Woman is an unforgiving dungeon master.

Playing to type would be Hawkgirl as fighter, Zatanna as wizard, Babs as rogue and Dina as ranger.

But no way would it go down like that. Z would be HELLS of annoyed by how the D&D magic system is “so inaccurate and unrealistic”, Babs would then take the wizard because it’s super nerdy and she’d love that (and she’d calculate that they get the most power boosts over the course of the long-game), Dina would want to play a big badass barbarian, and Hawkgirl would go cleric, to just help out her geeky friends while they play this geeky game.

They better keep an eye on Zatanna to make sure she doesn’t use her powers to cheat.

That illustration is wonderful, but the “real girls gaming” schtick just seems like a crypto way to do nerd policing for “fake geek girls.”

True, it would read better just as “Girls Gaming.”

Pretty much spot-on… altho I’d love to see the completely unsubtle Hawkgirl as a bard. “You mean I have to… sing?” And just to be a total comic-nerd-geek nazi, I’ll point out that Black Canary’s first name is spelled “Dinah”, as in DY-nuh as opposed to DEE-nuh.

    I admit, I lol’d.

Crazy fun to see RGG linked on a site I read every day. <3

I answered this question to an anon here: http://realgirlsgaming.tumblr.com/post/24863740177/whilst-i-love-what-you-celebrate-with-this-tumblr-why

The site is about highlighting that playing video games has nothing to do with how you look or what you wear, especially if you are of the female persuasion.

Zatanna already looks unimpressed with the magic system. I suspect she’d play a fighter or something, if nothing else but for the change of pace.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the nice comments! I always know when this gets reposted somewhere cool because my DA account goes crazy. Haha. I always love to see people interact this this piece because I really worked hard to leave room for a story and subtle interactions that the viewer can interpret through there own experiences with the characters and DnD. The point of it is to combat that whole “fake geek girl” things that’s going around.

This image is totally unrealistic. Does the artist seriously think that’s enough pizza for five gamers? Please.

I think you’re right about Babs meta-gaming the heck out of the caster classes.

However, I’m going to go with Bard for BC, because she’d find it amusing.
Rogue for Zatanna because she’s sneaky like that.
And Barbarian for Hawkgirl because when you smash things with a giant mace, what else could you possibly want?

‘did you really just roll a natural 20? don;t make me use the lasso of truth on you.’

Comic book heroes playing D&D. Cool squared.
