‘You’re a pundit’: Florida Congresswoman Tries and Fails to Misinform on Record About Iran

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna from Florida couldn’t agree on facts with an MSNow News co-host Ayman Mohyeldin.

Luna, during the interview, defended President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Iran preemptively. “For over 40 years, the Iranian government and regime have been responsible for the thousands upon thousands of Americans,” she said on record. “Not to mention state-sponsored terrorism,” she added. “Where have they killed thousands of Americans in America?” Mohyeldin followed up on Luna’s claim to clarify.

“I didn’t say they killed thousands of Americans in America. I said that they have been responsible for thousands of Americans being killed.” To this, the co-host followed up on his initial question of where, essentially asking for proof that this happened. Luna claims that Iran has state-sponsored terrorism but refuses to be exact with her examples.

“It seems like you don’t have an understanding of the facts, Congresswoman.” The co-host responded, to which the congresswoman seemed to take offense. “Well, I’m the one getting the briefings, not you. You’re a pundit offering your opinion because you want clickbait, but you’re not interested in the substance.” Before she could continue, the co-host interrupted and accused her of filibustering.

Is the United States at war with Iran?

“What we’re trying to get at is that you make an assertion on this air that it’s not an American invasion when America sends fighter jets.” The two clashed on the definition of war before the congresswoman skirted around the implication of invading Iran.

“Boots on the ground are not going to happen. Congress will not vote on war with Iran because that is not something we support, and that is not something that the administration supports.”

This current conflict does not fit the U.S. Constitution’s definition of war, as it needs to be approved by Congress. While Luna is correct in that regard, it doesn’t change the fact that the United States is now engaged in conflict with Iran after Trump decided to launch a ‘major operation in Iran.’
