Wreck-It Ralph 2 Teaser Trailer Hilariously Steps Into the Wider World of THE INTERNET

Walt Disney Animation’s Wreck-It Ralph was one of the sweetest and most surprising animated films of 2012. Now, Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly), Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) and all their arcade friends are being exposed to the wider world via … THE INTERNET. No! Don’t do it Vanellope! That way lies madness! Anyway, check out the newly released teaser trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2!

When the owner of the arcade hooks his business up to the internet for the first time (getting online using an iMac, no less! Fancy!), our favorite arcade video game characters step into the wider world of gaming made possible by the Internet.

It’s a world that’s very … distracting, and almost immediately Ralph’s attention is sucked in by pop up ads running up to tell him about contests he’s won and clickbait story topics That Will Shock Him. When they visit the land of eBay, they learn that people like to buy really weird and haunting stuff.

And then, there’s territory that’s more familiar: gaming. The world of online games is very different than the one Ralph is used to, as people seem to really enjoy games in which they touch the screen with their fingers and calmly move things around for points. Ralph sees the appeal as he involves himself in a game requiring him to feed pancakes to a bunny and milkshakes to a cat, but then his speedy, competitive 8-bit mentality takes over and … well, let’s just say that the results are explosive.

Here’s the official synopsis from Disney:

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 leaves Litwak’s video arcade behind, venturing into the uncharted, expansive and thrilling world of the internet—which may or may not survive Ralph’s wrecking. Video game bad guy Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman) must risk it all by traveling to the world wide web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, Sugar Rush. In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet—the netizens—to help navigate their way, including a webite entrepreneur named Yesss (voice of Taraji P. Henson), who is the head algorithm and the heart and soul of trend-making site “BuzzzTube.” Directed by Rich Moore (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph) and Phil Johnston (co-writer Wreck-It Ralph, Cedar Rapids, co-writer Zootopia,), and produced by Clark Spencer (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph, Bolt), Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-Ralph 2 hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2018.

I’m curious to see what the “big bad” of this film is going to be, and what it ultimately will have to say about the Internet in general and online gaming in particular. One thing is for sure, seeing Ralph and Vanellope together again having an adventure totally brought me all the joy, and this film looks like it could be as charming and hilarious as the first.
