Woman Wants to Save Money on Major Chain Hotels. She Shared Travel Hack That Lowered Her Hilton Price From $240 to $180: ‘Stop Overpaying for Hotels’

This trick can you 25% off.

Traveling comes at a price—literally—and expenses can easily rack up when the trip is with friends or family. So it makes sense that people go out of their way to scour the internet to find the best possible deals, or experiment with last-minute bookings to score an unexpected discount. One traveler said she found a way to “stop overpaying for hotels” with the price-matching travel hack.

Travel content creator Ayisha (@awaywithayisha) shared in a video on TikTok how she was able to get up to 25% off the original price at a Hilton hotel during her Orlando stay by using competing rates from third-party apps to her benefit. According to Ayisha, the price-matching trick also works on other major hotel chains like Marriott.

Ayisha’s advice to travelers is pretty straightforward. She said to check third-party apps like Expedia, Hotels.com, or Priceline to see the available rooms listed. But instead of booking through the app, Ayisha said to book directly with the hotel by calling. She claimed that hotels will not only match the cheaper rate on the app, but will add extra discounts.

This travel hack will allegedly give you the lowest price

“I love to use this hack for last-minute travel because when you’re doing it last-minute, instead of submitting an email request, you have to call [the hotel],” Ayisha said. “When you call, I feel like you’re putting them on the spot, and they have to check everything right away.”

STOP OVERPAYING FOR HOTELS! Did you know that Marriott and Hilton have price-match guarantees that can help you save money when you find the same hotel room cheaper on a third-party site? Before you book that “cheaper” rate on Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline.com etc., check the hotel’s direct website first. If you find the same room, same dates, same conditions for less on an eligible third-party site, you may be able to submit a price-match claim and get the lower rate, while still booking directly with the hote! This is one of those little travel hacks that can save you $$$ over time, especially when you’re booking hotels for family trips! ✨ My tip: ALWAYS compare prices before you hit “book.” Third-party sites aren’t automatically the best deal! Save this for your next trip ? and send it to someone who LOVES a good hotel deal! #TravelTipTuesday #TravelTips #TravelHacks #fypシ #hotels

According to Ayisha, hotels would check to ensure that the listings on third-party apps are in line with the hotel’s own policies and offerings before making the booking. “Not only does the third-party site have to be cheaper, but everything has to be the same as far as, like, cancellation and room type,” she said.

Ayisha said she used the travel hack when she booked a room at the Hilton hotel near Orlando for a one-night stay to visit SeaWorld and Aquatica. The travel content creator claimed that the original price for her room was around $240, but by providing the hotel with the lower price she found listed on Expedia, she was able to bring it down to $180.

Hilton and Marriott’s price match guarantee

Per the Best Hilton Hotels, their policy does allow guests to get a matched rate with an additional 25% off by submitting a price match claim online or within 24 hours after. It will take Hilton a day or two to confirm the claim before adjusting the guest’s reservation to the lower price. It is worth noting that Hilton doesn’t allow price match claims to be done during check-in or just before the booking.

According to Traveling For Miles, Marriott’s policy on price matching works similar to Hilton’s. However, guests are offered the choice of receiving 25% off on the matched rate—20% off at their Design Hotels—or get 5,000 Bonvoy points instead. Price matching claims must be made through Marriott’s official website. Like Hilton, guests will need to provide the competing rate—by at least 1% difference—from the third-party app.

Double check their policy

“So, the next time you’re staying at a Hilton or Marriott property, I would definitely suggest trying this hack,” Ayisha said. “It’s always worth seeing if you could save money anywhere.” Another woman also shared her own travel hack when staying at hotels, which supposedly gave her additional perks—emailing the manager.

Viewers expressed their excitement over learning a new travel hack: “Whattt omggg!! Thank you.” One viewer, who claimed to be a staff member, cautioned others that not all properties have the same policy. “As a supervisor at a hotel that carries the Marriott Bonvoy brand, please keep in mind this does vary by property!” the user said.

Other viewers were a bit skeptical of the process and claimed that the price-matching trick doesn’t always work. “They hung up on me the last time I tried to do this,” a user said. Another user said, “Nah they have so many loopholes they always reject it.” Either way, it still might be worth looking into on the chance that you can score a discount.
