Woman Posts About the Care She Received at an Ob’s Office After Losing Her Baby. Then They Allegedly Launch an Investigation: ‘That’s My Trigger’
A nightmare trip to the OB's office gets even worse!
One woman posted about a harrowing experience she had in an OB-GYN’s office after losing her baby recently. She alleges that she “experienced extreme negligent care” at her former healthcare provider. Jessica Maranda @jessmarandaphoto on TikTok, shared her story of leaving a Google review at her former OB-GYN office. She lost her pregnancy due to various complications. And, the photographer felt like the people who were supposed to help her through the traumatic moment weren’t actually doing what they could to render the best care possible.
Maranda is sharing her story “so that someone out there that might be potentially seeking care can proceed with caution.” OB services are something that prospective mothers and all kinds of patients rely on for different intimate procedures. The photographer left that review on the Google site for the office and someone reached out almost immediately.
“They have to do an investigation. I got a call after leaving that review, and I wasn’t expecting this. But, from the hierarchy in the hospital that this OB’s office operates under, I talked with someone. And, they said, ‘We take these seriously.’ As they should. ‘And, we have to do an investigation.’ I said, ‘Okay, I’m not asking for that,’” Maranda recalled.
“But, if that’s what you need to do! I talked to her and explained more in-depth about what my experience was with them. I’m gonna get this letter in the mail. And, this letter triggered me, because I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t want this, and it upset me more than if I had just not gotten it. Because, there’s a line in this letter. They didn’t even investigate the key points that I expressed in my review, right? And, the key things that I was so upset about they don’t even touch upon.”
The OB office ended up making it worse
Stories like Maranda’s are not hard to find on social media. After all, the quality of care largely depends on the individual medical professional administering the procedures. For this woman, the fact that no one followed up with her after she reached out before major surgery was a bridge too far. In the video she posted to TikTok, she appears to be holding the letter and explaining what happened in fine detail. The comment section has tons of support. But, the picture she paints is a painful one.
“I was 4 days out from a [dilation and evacuation] procedure, and I still decided to call their office. Why I don’t know, but I was having abdominal pain? And, I thought this was potentially complications. Could something could a piece of my placenta still have been left inside? There’s all these things that could be happening,” she asks the people watching at home. “So, I’m 4 days out from this traumatic experience in a major surgery. And I was told, ‘Okay, leave a message for the nurse. Someone will get back to you.’ No one got back to me, not one person in that office ever got back to me.”
Later in the video, the poster said, “that’s my trigger for today.” It wasn’t just the sad experience of confronting that loss from pregnancy complications. The thing that set Maranda off was getting a letter in the mail talking about an investigation that she believed was flawed from the word go. Her account of trying to get into contact with the office makes it clear that she believes the miscommunication was entirely on the nurses. Maranda argued, “No one called me back, not one single person. So that right there, it’s so infuriating on so many levels.” The poster also mentioned the trauma from not just losing the baby. But, having to revisit such a heartbreaking time through the letter. Now, there’s even more of a spotlight on this entire story that will go further than a single letter would.
