Woman thought she found a ‘cool’ thrift shirt for her boyfriend. Then she learned who Sean John was
An honest mistake

With the amount of information available on the internet, it can sometimes be difficult to keep up. Nya (@nyaajadee) faced a similar problem when she helped her boyfriend purchase a thrifted shirt for work and later learned that the brand that made the shirt, Sean John, was owned by none other than rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.
For those wondering why Combs’ association with the brand is controversial, he is currently incarcerated at the Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution. He is serving a 50-month prison sentence following a criminal conviction in October 2025 for transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
So how did Nya learn about the shirt’s controversial nature? In a TikTok video, she said that when her boyfriend wore it to the restaurant bar where he works, his colleagues started to laugh at him. “They were like, damn, dude, a Sean John shirt? Like, you’re kind of crazy,” Nya said, recounting what his co-workers told him. Nya also shared that her boyfriend repeatedly asked them questions, as he was unaware of what was happening before finally realizing that Sean John was Diddy’s clothing brand.
Nya said that after some back and forth, her boyfriend eventually realized that Sean John was Diddy’s clothing brand. “We didn’t know it was f****** Diddy. I didn’t. I knew Diddy. I thought Diddy had pants. Just pants. I knew Diddy had pants. I didn’t know he had shirts, too. But also, I didn’t know that his clothing company was called Sean John,” Nya said. She added, “So I helped my boyfriend pick out a Diddy shirt. What did Sean John do? What did Sean John not do?”
“I didn’t even know he made clothes”
Turns out some people in the comments were as unaware as Nya about Diddy’s clothing brand, despite knowing about his criminal conduct. One person wrote, “I didn’t even know he made clothes.” Another individual reacted similarly and said, “I guess I’m one millennial that was left out the loop lol because I didn’t actually know his name other then his stage name, also did not know he had a clothing line.”
A few people in the comments suggested Nya workarounds for her issue, proposing ways her boyfriend could still wear the shirt without advertising Diddy’s brand. A common piece of advice was to use a seam ripper.
One person provided a step-by-step of the whole process and wrote, “seam rip it super gently and make sure you’re just getting the white lettering! i’ve taken the logos out of a few hoodies bc i prefer them plain. if you’re careful, there should be very minimal damage to the shirt itself. worse comes to worst, you’ll have a tiny hole you can just sew a cuter less evil patch over lol.” Another individual with a similar opinion said, “If you take a seam ripper to the back of the embody, you can take it off.”
Surprisingly enough, a few people shared their own experiences with clothing items somehow associated with Diddy. While uploading a trial room photo, a woman wrote, “Almost bought this shirt at the thrift store till I realized the rhinestones said “diddy style” (because it was also on the tag).”
Some appreciated Nya for owning up to the situation. She didn’t need to share what happened publicly, especially when people are often sensitive about these issues. Yet, she chose to do so. Furthermore, she raised awareness about the connection between Sean John and Diddy, potentially helping many make better-informed decisions.
