Woman With Two Kids Says She Bought a Brand-New Box of Huggies Diapers at Target. Then She Opened It: ‘My Postpartum Anxiety Could Not Handle This’

A mother’s frustrating Target purchase has gone viral after she said she opened a brand-new box of Huggies diapers only to find clothing and plastic inside. The woman, who does not identify herself, described the discovery in a video. Wall Street Apes later reshared the video on X, where users discussed how major retailers handle product returns.

In the video, the mother said she purchased the Huggies box the previous day and noticed something was wrong after she opened it. “I don’t know if this is a Huggies problem or a Target problem, but, like, there’s no diapers in this,” she said. The woman showed the opened box. She pointed out that one side appeared sealed, while the other side was open. Inside, she said she found other items instead of diapers.

“See, like, this end is still closed. This is open. I just opened this. That’s a blanket and plastic and a shirt. Or, I don’t know what it is, but there’s fabric in there instead of diapers,” she said.

She said the timing couldn’t be worse.

The mother also explained that she was four weeks postpartum and had a toddler at home when she discovered the issue. She said the timing made the situation especially stressful because she needed diapers and was preparing for her husband to leave for a night shift.

“Now I have to lug my four-week-old and my 24-month-old to Target,” she said. “My husband’s about to go to his night shift, which I’m already anxious about.” She added, “My postpartum anxiety could not handle this.”

The woman said she became emotional after opening the box because she needed the diapers immediately. “The second I saw this, I was like, who does this? And, like, in tears,” she said. “In tears, because I needed diapers, of course.”

She also questioned whether someone had removed the diapers and returned the box to the store. The video does not identify who opened the package, where the purchase occurred, or whether Target determined how the box ended up on the shelf.

Target has not commented on the specific social media post. Target’s return policy states that most new, unopened items sold by Target can be returned within 90 days with proof of purchase. According to Target’s return policy, some items may have additional restrictions, and Target reserves the right to deny returns in certain situations.

What could be a fraudulent return may be a simple mistake.

The viral video prompted discussion among viewers about whether customers returned the product after removing the original contents. Some commenters also suggested another possibility.

“It almost looked like someone was going to give those away and returned the wrong box. Giving the benefit of the doubt. Look at how neatly they are folded. Just a thought,” one commenter wrote. Another user raised concerns about return inspections at large retailers, writing that similar issues can happen when returned items are not thoroughly checked.

The mother’s video did not confirm whether she received a refund, replacement diapers, or any response from Target or Huggies.
