Woman Says Her Airbnb Was Infested With Bedbugs, but Customer Service Claimed Her Evidence Was Insufficient, Leaving Her Fighting for a Refund

A woman’s plans to sleep in a normal bed after a month of sleeping in the back of her car were ruined after she claimed the Airbnb she booked was infested with bedbugs. The guest said that she only spent a total of five hours at the house before deciding to pack up and go back to her car for the night. The worst part is that she says the customer service team wouldn’t give her a full refund.

Ravenbronique’s TikTok account states that she is “Rebuilding my life from my Subaru studio!” Since beginning her journey documenting her progress, she has accumulated almost 35,000 followers on the platform.

While living out of the back of a car might seem like a fun time for some, Raven decided to treat herself to an actual bed for two nights and chose an Airbnb near her area. “I just wanted to experience the feeling of an actual bed,” Raven says. However, upon arrival, she claims that her plans for a comfy night were scuppered by the presence of bedbugs at the property.

Raven left the Airbnb after just a few hours

It quickly became apparent that she couldn’t stay at the property after claiming she was bitten multiple times. “By 4:00 a.m. I was checking out, and I was right back in my Subaru studio.” Raven said.

She showed one particularly nasty bite on her eyelid that soon became swollen. Raven also shared photos of the bedbugs crawling on the furniture and said she forwarded the pictures to the Airbnb owner and a customer service agent.

What was rather puzzling was that Raven claimed the Airbnb customer service agent denied that the photos she sent showed bedbugs, trying to convince her that they were roaches instead: “I don’t know why they think a roach makes it any better.”

A screenshot of the conversation with the service agent shared by Raven shows them telling her that they cannot proceed with the refund. “The evidence which you have provided is not sufficient hence we cannot proceed further,” the text said. Raven claimed she also contacted the host and informed them of the infestation, but her messages were apparently ignored.

Raven accused Airbnb of denying the fact that one of its hosts had bedbugs on the property. Ultimately, she was offered a partial refund of 30% despite claiming she couldn’t stay at the property.

“Dispute the charge with the bank!” wrote one viewer, adding, “No way you should have to pay a dime for that!” Others claimed that Airbnb was “getting ridiculous.” Raven certainly isn’t the first guest to have trouble with hosts, as another person recently claimed their host tried to charge them $20k for damages they say they didn’t cause.
