Woman Interviews at Taco Bell and a System Says, ‘You’re Hired.’ Then the Manager Sends Staff To Confess: ‘Turns Out I’d Been…’
AI says yes, manager says no

A TikTok user is sharing her experience of the challenges she faced when applying for a job at Taco Bell. @yappyabbyy uploaded a video on her account where she shared what happened when she applied for a job at Taco Bell.
She said she had an interview with them, but what happened afterward left her really confused. Abby mentioned that after the interview, an AI bot called AI Bella messaged her, saying she got the job and was hired. Not only that, but it also reportedly told Abby her first day of work would be July 1st.
TikTok user @yappyabbyy speaks about how AI Bella fooled her
After Taco Bell’s AI system, called AI Bella, allegedly told Abby that her first day was July 1st, she was reportedly asked to fill out some necessary information and told that a manager would get back to her soon.
However, Abby states in her video that a week had passed without any contact from Taco Bell, and by then, it was already July 1st. She apparently went to Taco Bell to ask about the situation, but says that when she arrived, she saw the manager hiding in the back and that she had sent someone below her to speak with Abby instead.
Abby then says that the person she spoke with told her she was not hired and explained that the miscommunication was caused by the AI system. She expressed her frustration in her video, saying, “Thank you so much for wasting my time.” Abby then says that upon learning about the AI mixup, she simply said “Okay” and left.
In her closing remarks, Abby asks, “Taco Bell. What the hell? Why is this a possibility? Why do you have an AI bot that can hire people and not actually hire them?”

What does Taco Bell’s hiring process look like?
According to Taco Bell Careers guide, the hiring process for the restaurant chain is usually quicker than “many traditional retail or restaurant jobs.” They also outline the steps involved in the hiring process, which are listed in chronological order as follows:
- Online application: Information to include in the application consists of full name, phone number, email address, work history, availability, education details, and the desired position.
- Application review: During this stage, a hiring manager may assess flexibility in scheduling, customer service potential, reliability indicators, access to transportation, and previous experience in fast food or retail.
- Interview: Common interview formats include one-on-one interviews, quick manager interviews, walk-in interview events, and open hiring interviews.
- Possible background screening: Some outlets may conduct background checks for applicants. This may involve criminal history review, employment verification, and identity verification.
- Job offer: Candidates who successfully complete the interview process may receive a verbal job offer, an email confirmation, orientation instructions, uniform information, and/or training schedules.
- Orientation and onboarding: The onboarding process at Taco Bell includes tax paperwork, payroll setup, food safety training, POS system training, team member orientation, and scheduling setup.
