When Will Secret Invasion Release on Disney Plus?

Supes Secret.

Not that we need to be any more paranoid than we already are in 2022, but Marvel is about to make us second guess some of our favorite comic book movie superheroes with their alien infiltration-meets-spy series Secret Invasion! As Stella once tattooed onto Piper’s arm in Orange is the New Black: It’s time to “trust no bitch.”

What is Secret Invasion About?

While the plot, (and many of the characters), are being kept tightly under wraps, we do know a few important things about the show. It will center around the Skrulls, the shape-shifting refugee aliens introduced in Captain Marvel. In the 2019 film, the Skrull—led by Talos—were first thought to be villains but were actually on the run from the powerful Kree army.

We also know that Skrulls, using their shape-shifting abilities, have been slowly infiltrating Earth for years and often pose as key players in Earth’s governments and superpowered alliances. In fact, at the end of Spider Man: Far From Home, we see Skrulls posing as Nick Fury and Maria Hill while the real Nick Fury is on a giant Skrull spaceship working with them. And at the end of WandaVision, we see an FBI agent reveal herself as a Skrull to Monica Rambeau.

In the comics, other major characters that are revealed to be Skrulls in disguise include Elektra, Hank Pym, and Spider-Woman. It is unclear whether or not this show will be their introduction into the MCU or whether the show will change many of the fake identities—especially because Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that this version of Secret Invasion will be a political spy thriller, as opposed to an action blockbuster.

When is the release date?

Unfortunately, Disney+ has not yet revealed the release date for Secret Invasion. It is potentially going to release in 2022, but it has not been confirmed, and pandemic-related delays may push it back further. Work on the series has been underway since 2019, but filming was still being completed in early 2022.
