We could have had ‘Hawkeye’ season 2, if only they’d pay Jeremy Renner

Fans have been wanting to see Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) back in action for a while. And we could have had season 2 of the Disney+ series. If only they’d pay Renner.
Renner was on High Performance when he spoke about the potential of a return to playing Hawkeye. Renner has been a part of the franchise since Thor (2011). He was one of the OG members of the Avengers and Hawkeye was the first time we really saw Clint on a mission all his own. And his dynamic with Kate Bishop was one fans were waiting for.
What’s upsetting is that we could have had a second season of the hit series but someone up the ladder didn’t want to pay Renner for it. “They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money,” he said on High Performance. “I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.’” The deal that was offered to Renner was not one he was willing to take.
The Mission: Impossible actor shared that he was offended by it and even made a joke to his snow plow incident that happened a few years ago. “I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’”
He went on to say that he did not ask for more money but that he was offered half of what he was given for the first season. So Renner just wanted to make the same amount for the same amount of work. And frankly, that’s reasonable! Renner did share that this wasn’t a Marvel decision but was seemingly those who deal with money over at the company.
“This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it,” Renner said. But don’t worry. It doesn’t seem like Renner has fully written a return to the character off. “Sadly, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I had to defend myself. I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”
