The end is here with a stunning new trailer for the series finale of Netflix’s cult favorite Sense8. Netflix has already released poster art for the two-hour long Sense8 finale, which bows on Netflix June 8th.
Netflix released a logline for the finale, which reads, “Personal lives are pushed aside as the cluster, their sidekicks, and some unexpected allies band together for a rescue mission and BPO take-down in order to protect the future of all Sensates.” The new trailer asks fundamental questions about the nature of humanity, as we see the Sensates in moments of intimacy, celebration, grief and danger. As the globe-trotting trailer reveals, the seven Sensates must come together to rescue kidnapped Sensate Wolfgang and fight back against the BPO to safeguard the future for themselves and their loved ones. As Nomi says, “I’m not just a me, I’m also a we.”
Sense8 was created by created by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, and premiered on Netflix in 2015. Though it premiered to favorable ratings and was lauded for its diversity and inclusive casting, Netflix cancelled the series after two seasons. Sense8 was rumoured to have a budget of nearly $9 million per episode, with locations in 13 different countries, making it one of the most expensive series ever. After the cancellation, fans took to social media to express their dismay. This massive outcry led to Netflix ordering the two-hour series wrap-up.
In a letter posted to Twitter, Lana Wachowski thanked the fans for reviving the series for one last hurrah, stating “Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life. (I could kiss every single one of you!) It is my great pleasure as well as Netflix’s (believe me, they love the show as much as we do but the numbers have always been challenging) to announce that there will be another two hour special released next year. After that…if this experience has taught me anything, you NEVER know.”
