Things We Saw Today: Rest In Peace, Boaty McBoatface

Well, ship.

In a extraordinary act of party pooping, Britain’s Science Minister Jo Johnson has revealed that the Natural Environment Research Council will likely not be naming their latest research vessel “Boaty McBoatface.” The NERC had asked the public to submit naming suggestions and vote on their favorite contenders. Boaty McBoatface was the overwhelming frontrunner, but Johnson has reservations about Boaty McB: “We do need a warrant from the Queen for what will be a Royal Research Vessel, and I wouldn’t want to be in the position of asking her to give a warrant for something that was completely frivolous.” (via The A.V.
