The Rock Battles 30-Foot Wolves, Gorillas, and Crocodiles in the Truly Ridiculous Rampage Trailer

Recommended Videos

The trailer for Rampage has landed, and it looks deliciously absurd. Based on the 1986 arcade game, Rampage follows Davis Okoye, a primatologist played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as he deals with an outbreak of Kong-sized monsters.

Players familiar with the original game will be happy to see that all three monsters – Lizzie the croc, George the gorilla, and Ralph the wolf – appear in the trailer, though only George gets a name so far. And although the original game travels across North America and Canada, hitting 40-something U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, this looks like most of the action will center on Chicago, Illinois, though we also get shots in a Western forest and the Florida Everglades.

This is one of those trailers that seems to give the whole plot away in two and a half minutes, but I suspect that’s because the appeal of this film won’t be its twists and turns. There is a clear question here for potential audiences: You want to watch the Rock befriend a massive gorilla while waging war with a helicopter-snatching wolf and a croc that swims up the Chicago River?

My answer is “OF COURSE,” but I recognize your mileage may vary on this one.

Directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas), Rampage storms into theaters on April 20, 2018.
