Texas Man Says His Sister’s Boyfriend Proposed During Secret Santa. He is Unhappy With How It Happened: ‘He Owes Her a Gift’

This ain't Texas

Family dynamics can sometimes be complicated, and when a new member joins, the situation can become even more tricky. In such cases, two things may happen. Either the involved parties resolve their issues through discussion and debate, or the chaos persists alongside everything else.

On December 28, 2025, TikTok user @lookitseric_ uploaded a video to notify everyone watching that her sister’s boyfriend had proposed to her during Secret Santa. While a family member getting engaged is usually a positive event, Eric mentioned that there were certain things related to the occasion that he didn’t like and that were bothering him, which he wanted to express. Continue reading to find out what they were.

TikTok user @lookitseric_  has several complaints surrounding her sister’s proposal

@lookitseric_’s video about her sister’s proposal isn’t an ordinary one because it’s not celebratory at all. Instead, it’s full of complaints. In the video he posted on December 28, 2025, Eric explained how he was bothered by the events surrounding her sister’s proposal.

First, he said that during Secret Santa, everyone was supposed to pick a name from a hat, which would randomly determine who they were buying a gift for. Surprisingly, his sister’s boyfriend drew her sister’s name. In his video, Eric claims that he believes the results were rigged. Second, Eric states that the proposal had all the necessary elements, but notes her sister was going to get the ring regardless. Because he chose to do it during Secret Santa, he no longer had to buy a gift for anyone and feels he owes his sister a gift. Third, Eric mentions that three weeks ago, everyone agreed to a $50 limit on Secret Santa gifts. However, his sister’s boyfriend clearly exceeded that amount while buying the engagement ring.

TikTok user @lookitseric_ ‘s video has attracted a lot of attention

From my perspective, @lookitseric_’s video, in which he talks about having complaints regarding his sister’s proposal, is satirical and meant purely for humor. However, many people have taken what he says seriously.

Whether people take @lookitseric_’s video seriously or not, it has clearly attracted a lot of attention. As of now, it has over 3 million views along with thousands of comments, saves, and shares. Many people validated what Eric said in his video. User @alteredpinkmusic wrote, “You’re correct, he owes her a gift. An engagement is not a gift.” User @dumisabhebe said, “You have a point because it’s real suspicious.” Others poked fun at the circumstances surrounding the event and Eric’s retelling of the same. User @rubymei wrote, “If he had picked your name you would be engaged right now so…” User @nova_buddy wrote, “i love that the he doesnt really care that his sister is getting married but the fact that the bf violated all the rules of secret santa.”

Relationship between cohabiting before marriage and divorce

An article from the University of Denver elaborates on a study conducted by psychologists and DU professors Galena Rhoades and Scott Stanley and highlights that, based on the study’s results, living together before engagement may lower a couple’s chances of a successful marriage.

The study surveyed around 1,600 Americans who married for the first time between 2010 and 2019. Results showed that 34 percent of marriages ended among those who lived together before engagement, compared to only 23 percent among couples who moved in together after becoming engaged or after marriage.
