Graduating from high school is a rite of passage. For many, graduation means liberation.

One teacher may have felt a little too liberated by one of his students graduating from high school. The move he purportedly pulled is giving online observers a very bad vibe.

Peyton (@pey_attention) says that after her graduation ceremony, she went to lunch with her family. When she got to lunch, there was a notification on her phone. She says her teacher had followed her on Instagram.

Peyton posted a TikTok about it, captioned, “Should I be worried my young male teacher followed me on Insta not even 1 hour after graduating?”

Many people agree that, yes, she should be worried.

Following someone online doesn’t necessarily mean you’re interested in them. People follow others for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with romance.

An Instagram follow is arguably more personal. That’s the takeaway many have about Peyton’s teacher purportedly smashing that follow button.

In a follow-up post, Peyton says that her teacher never flirted with her, though he did give her a weird feeling now and again.

“The only thing he said to me ever that was weird but not like flirty was he always told me like, ‘Oh my gosh, Peyton, your attitude is so bad. You’re so sassy,’ and stuff like that, sort of joking with me,” she says.

She thought that was strange because it doesn’t match her personality, but shrugged it off.

Then at graduation, she says he kept looking at her and smiling.

“I guess I should’ve taken that as a clue, but I didn’t,” she says.

When she first got the follow notification, Peyton says she didn’t think much of it. She kind of figured she’d already followed him on Instagram, she recalls, noting that many of her friends follow him and guys from school are friends with him.

Things started to look different when she realized that she hadn’t followed him on Instagram, Peyton says.

Creepy or innocent?

People are of two minds about the situation: date him or block him. Many asked if the man, who she estimates is 23 or 24, is attractive.

In her second post about the uncomfortable follow, Peyton emphatically rules out a love match.

“That is not happening. I am not going for a teacher. No, thank you,” she says.

Most believe that the teacher’s foll0w was not innocent.

“He’s been plotting this wholeee time,” wrote one.

Numerous commenters asked for the teacher’s name, photo, or other identifying information.

Peyton says she isn’t going to expose him.

“I’m not going to reveal his name, his picture, what school I go to. I really just don’t think it’s appropriate,” she says, adding, “I don’t want to ruin his career.”

Peyton didn’t immediately reply to a comment on her TikTok. Her account doesn’t accept messages from people she doesn’t follow.
