Marvel Entertainment has announced what many people suspected: Paul Rudd, while he will be playing the protagonist of a movie called Ant-Man, will not be playing the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. Rudd will be playing Scott Lang, the second character to fill the superhero identity of Ant-Man. Michael Douglas has been cast as an older Hank Pym, and that leaves one significant question: what does the movie plan to do with Pym's long time partner in crimefighting, Janet van Dyne, the Wasp?
Ok, don't get yourselves too excited. We've got a collection of Marvel Universe stories for you. Some are fact, some are rumor, and some are WAIT, DID YOU JUST SAY WASP CASTING?
In an interview with MTV, Marvel President Kevin Feige confirmed that Ant-Man will be the first movie in Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase Three (which we kind of already knew), talked about how Iron Man 3 will connect with The Avengers sequel (potentially interesting...), and confirmed that Marvel's planning a Doctor Strange movie for after Ant-Man.
One of those bits of news is far and away more exciting than the other two, and I don't think I need to tell you which one.
Over at ScreenRant there's some interesting speculation as to whether the Wasp, one of the original members of The Avengers in the comics, might pop up in Iron Man 3. The idea is that actress Stephanie Szostak, who was added to the cast back in July and can briefly be seen in the trailer (she's the one pushing Tony Stark against a wall at 1:07) might be playing the superhero, real name Janet van Dyne. No Marvel official has even hinted that this might be the case, but ScreenRants has assembled (ba-doom-ch) some evidence that looks pretty compelling. Let's break it down.
