Comic-Con Just Surprised Everybody With a Blair Witch Sequel

Recommended Videos

It’s no stretch to say that The Blair Witch Project is one of the most oft-remembered (and oft-quoted) scary movies of its generation. It was one of the first to utilize the classic “found footage” trope–or, at the very least, give it something of a resurgence within the horror genre. Sequels were attempted (and failed), numerous parodies were lovingly made, and eventually the thought of more from the Blair Witch universe likely left most audiences’ minds. Until now.

Folks at Comic-Con who showed up for a special screening of The Woods, directed by Adam Wingard, were in for a big surprise when they realized that The Woods was actually Blair Witch. Promotional signage was swapped out while the audience was inside the screening room, and according to those who had a chance to see the film early, the movie didn’t shy away from spoiling the big reveal early on in the plot.

Now that it’s official, you can watch the trailer below (though maybe in the day time, with lots of lights on, if possible):

The surprise(!) new Blair Witch sequel will be in theaters starting September 16.
